G&G works out of Santa Ana, and the service list is short on purpose: chimney sweep, chimney caps, gas logs, dryer vent cleaning, damper repairs, log lighters, and air duct cleaning.

    A sweep is a flue cleaning, top to bottom: soot and creosote brushed out of the flue, the firebox cleared, and the smoke shelf scraped so smoke has a clear road out.

    A cap is the lid on your flue. It keeps rain, birds, and leaves out of the chimney while letting smoke through, which is most of what a chimney asks for.

    Gas log sets bring the fireplace look to a gas line: the logs, the burner, and the flame pattern, fitted and serviced so the fire burns the way it should.

    Lint packs a dryer vent the way soot packs a flue. Clearing the vent run lets the dryer breathe again, and the heat actually reaches the clothes.

Why sweep

Soot is quiet. Creosote is not.

Three honest reasons a chimney earns a visit.

  1. i.

    Creosote burns.

    Every wood fire leaves glaze on the flue walls. Let enough of it build up and the chimney itself can light like a fuse. The sweep takes the fuel away.

  2. ii.

    Smoke needs a clear road.

    A flue choked with soot pushes smoke back into the room instead of out the pot. If the fireplace smells like a campfire in July, the road is blocked.

  3. iii.

    The top weathers first.

    Rain, birds, and leaves come in through an open flue. A cap keeps the weather out and lets the smoke through, which is the whole job of the top.

Once a year is the rule of thumb for a chimney you burn in all winter. If you only light a few fires a season, call and we will tell you straight whether it needs it this year.

The flue brushed top to bottom, the firebox and smoke shelf cleared, and the cap checked while we are up there. At the walkthrough we show you what came out and how the flue looks now.

Yes. Gas logs are one of the four things we do. If the logs are sooting up or the flame looks wrong, that is a call worth making.

Lint builds up in the vent run and chokes the dryer. We clear the run so air moves again. If your dryer takes two cycles to do one load, the vent is the first suspect.

If your flue is open to the sky, rain, birds, and leaves get in. A cap closes the top to the weather and keeps it open for smoke. We fit and service them.
